While several states are passing new voter restrictions, existing practices in other states (like MA) have the same effect (see recent SI voter participation disparity analysis). It’s easy for blue state media outlets like the NYT and the Republican to disparage South Carolina; a little bit harder to acknowledge voter suppression in their own backyards. In the near future, the DOJ is likely to take serious action against the City of Springfield (again). We can only hope that outrage isn’t diminished when the problem is right here at home.
