The recent analysis of the low voter turn out is parallel to the amount of interests in local elections. While this report is reflective of most urban cities (low voter turn out in non-presidential year elections), I think the low voter turn out in Springfield has to also consider the numbers of registered voters in the community. This report explains that Springfield is a minority (63%) majority city, but how many of these residents are registered voters? How many of the potential voters are cognizant of the issues in regards to local politics to the point of participating. I am not a resident of Springfield, but it would appear a significant number of the minority population are not full participants in local issues for a number of reasons. This report is helpful in learning more about the need for continued outreach and engagement, but it also is reflective of the need for further analyses of the population.
