In from Pittsburgh for a weekend of workshops in Holyoke last month, Fred Brown (bio) shared his experience of structural barriers for low-income African-American and Latino residents trying to get ahead. We were reminded that Springfield and Holyoke are not alone. What is unique, however, is how Fred makes the connection to environmental priorities: air quality, energy consumption, food access, health disparities, etc. Fred was here for a Transition Towns training sponsored by Nuestras Raíces, Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, and The Springfield Institute. We’d like to bring him back to spend some time in Springfield….
