Hampden County is one of a handful of counties across the country chosen to pilot The Opportunity Index as a tool to increase collaboration, make our work more systematic, communicate more effectively, and increase social and economic mobility regionally. The new tool, which was developed by Opportunity Nation and Measure of America, has received national media attention and recognition.
The coalition is led by The Springfield Institute and so far includes: Alliance to Develop Power, Amherst College Center for Community Engagement, The City of Holyoke, Mt. Holyoke College Community Based Learning Program, Out Now Springfield, Pioneer Valley Asthma Coalition, and Verdant Multicultural Media. (Click here for a photo gallery from our initial meeting.)
- Building the coalition (send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved!)
- Finding out who’s doing what to increase opportunity using a multi-sector stakeholder survey
- Completing pretty demographic and population analyses of Hampden County
- Developing an “Opportunity City” concept to launch locally and replicate nationally
Stay tuned for more!
